Las Cruces sits at one of the busiest commercial-trucking and commuter intersections in the Southwest. I-10 carries cross-country freight through the city; I-25 carries the El Paso–to–Albuquerque commuter and freight corridor north; US-70 carries the route to Alamogordo, Holloman Air Force Base, and the White Sands Missile Range. Add NMSU traffic, the cross-border commuter flow from Mexico, and the rapid growth of east mesa neighborhoods, and Las Cruces produces serious crashes at a rate that doesn’t match its population.
I’m Alex Flores, Senior Counsel at Singleton Schreiber. Former Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney in Albuquerque, 17 federal jury trials, current Judge Advocate with the New Mexico Air National Guard. I represent injured Las Cruces drivers, passengers, and families across Doña Ana County.

Las Cruces Crash Corridors
- I-10 (cross-country I-10 / I-25 interchange). The west-side I-10 / I-25 split sees high-speed multi-vehicle crashes routinely.
- I-25 north toward Hatch, Truth or Consequences, and Albuquerque. Heavy commercial traffic; weather conditions in the spring and fall produce severe crashes.
- US-70 east to Alamogordo. The corridor through the San Augustin Pass — and the route to Holloman Air Force Base, White Sands Missile Range, and the Mescalero Apache reservation. Dust storms and curves at speed produce serious crashes.
- El Paseo Road and Lohman Avenue. The two main arterials through Las Cruces. Frequent rear-end and intersection collisions.
- Telshor and Roadrunner Parkway. The east-side commercial corridors connecting NMSU and the Mesilla Valley Mall area to the larger road network.
What Makes a Las Cruces Case Different
Las Cruces medical care is concentrated at Memorial Medical Center and MountainView Regional Medical Center, with specialist care often referred to El Paso. That cross-border referral pattern affects records, billing, and damages reconstruction. Civil cases go to the 3rd Judicial District Court in Las Cruces. Cases involving federal employees from White Sands Missile Range, Holloman AFB personnel, USPS letter carriers on I-10, or Indian Health Service providers from the Mescalero clinic implicate the Federal Tort Claims Act with its 2-year administrative deadline — see my FTCA page.
NM Law Overview
Three-year statute of limitations. Pure comparative fault. State minimum $25,000 bodily injury liability. NM UM/UIM stacking. 90-day notice for government-vehicle claims (Las Cruces PD, Doña Ana County Sheriff, NMDOT).

FAQs: Las Cruces Car Accidents
Where will my Las Cruces case be filed?
If the case goes to suit, in the 3rd Judicial District Court in Las Cruces.
What if my crash happened on I-10 with an out-of-state driver?
Personal jurisdiction over the driver applies because the crash happened in NM. The driver’s home-state policy will respond. Prompt investigation is critical because out-of-state witnesses can be hard to locate later.
What if the crash involved a federal employee — White Sands, Holloman, USPS?
Federal Tort Claims Act rules apply. You must file an administrative claim within two years. See my FTCA page.
What if the other driver had no insurance?
Your own UM coverage applies. NM is a stacking state — multiple policies often expand available coverage substantially.
How much does a Las Cruces car accident lawyer cost?
Contingency fee — no fee unless I recover. Case costs are advanced by the firm and reimbursed from the recovery.
